Our mission

alt mvmnt is…

a culmination of years of physical training, movement exploration and instruction, and a learned understanding of anatomy and physiology.

an alternative to the status quo of traditional fitness and training; taking a holistic approach to movement by combining up to date methods of strength, mobility, flexibility, and cardiovascular training with fun, engaging elements such as dance, games, and curated, kick-ass playlists. an alternative to complete anonymity and relying solely on willpower; the sense of community and accountability, make it known that you’re not just a number but a known member of our group!

a supportive community of individuals with diverse backgrounds and goals who keep each other motivated, accountable, and included. One of the hardest parts of working out can be doing it on your own; in this community, you’ll know you’ve got a supportive group with you every step of the way.

Who’s behind alt mvmnt?

Hi, I’m Mackenzie, a NASM certified personal trainer, pole instructor, and dancer. I have been training clients for over 4 years and have over 10 years of experience in dance/movement instruction.

To truly understand why I created alt mvmnt, you have to understand a little bit about my background. Aside from a short stint playing soccer when I was 4, growing up, my only extra curricular activity was dance and the studio basically became my second home. I then went on to graduate from a performing arts high school and college for, you guessed it, dance. But, it wasn’t until college that I found a second passion, and one not that far from what I already knew: exercise. My entire life I’d been training my body, pushing it to perform very precise and particular movements that gave me a better understanding of how my body functioned and what movement patterns produced great ease of motion. After pursuing my two passions, I now had this drive to share this knowledge and understanding with others while broadening the scope of who I could reach.

When I move, when I dance, when I exercise, it is not just a means to an end. So often we receive the message that exercise is just to get slimmer, or shredded, or any other aesthetic goal you can think of. But what traditional fitness motivation lacks is the element of enjoyment, not just after the fact but during the process. If you hate what you’re doing, chances are you’re not going to do it for long. But when you find that style of movement and training that makes you FEEL good… that is what will get you to your goals quicker than any detox tea or insanely intense workout program.

And that is what I am creating with alt mvmnt, for people like me who don’t just want to blindly suffer through another workout but really enjoy and understand why movement is so important.

I’m excited to share my passion for movement and fitness with you, help you to find joy in moving and building a better relationship with your body.

My specialties are: strength conditioning, hypertrophy training, mobility/flexibility, kinesthetic awareness (mind-body connection).

What I do for fun: dance, pole, read everything from fiction to exercise science articles, spend time with my cat, eat delicious food, laugh at puns.
